Leveraging Synergies: An Overview of Our Group’s Work

Participants learn about the concept of resilience from different professional and scientific perspectives, including various practical cases, and apply resilience thinking related to sustainable spatial development, e.g. to the resilience of urban economic structures or infrastructure systems in the face of disruption.

The first part of the lecture deals with the theoretical and mathematical-conceptual foundations of resilience and resilient development. The second part of the lecture deals with socio-economic aspects of resilience and management principles at different scales. Different regulatory norms and operational tools are presented and exemplified during the course.

The third part of the lecture consists of the presentation of various challenges and case studies of resilient development, which are described using examples from different contexts and disciplines, e.g. from the Karlsruhe region or North Africa.

EcoHive is a joint Hackathon for Innovation, Venture and Exploration of Environmental data. We invite PhD students, especially from KIT and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) to join a 24-hour team challenge on coding and environmental data study. Contribute as member of a team of environmental researchers and coding experts to delve into the depths of climate and environmental science and sustainable development.

The Hackathon challenges will focus on a specific topic by framing a study region and an initial data set. However, your team is also welcome if you seek the atmosphere of a hackathon to develop your individual project.

The colloquium "Smart City Developments – Integration of AI, IoT, and Satellite Technologies" provides professionals, researchers, policymakers, and interested citizens with an opportunity to exchange insights on the latest developments and challenges in implementing smart city technologies.

The focus will be on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to optimize traffic management, energy efficiency, and urban infrastructure. Additionally, the colloquium will address synergies between satellite technologies and smart city applications, particularly their role in improving weather forecasting and urban planning processes. Essential topics such as data privacy, cybersecurity, and the sustainable integration of these technologies into urban development will be thoroughly examined throughout the event.

The workshop "Multimodal Transport in Africa – Potentials for Sustainable Development" offers professionals, researchers, and interested participants a platform to discuss the role of multimodal transport systems in Africa's sustainable development. The focus will be on identifying opportunities, challenges, and solutions to enhance the continent's transportation system, with a particular emphasis on integrating different modes of transport and sustainable development concepts.
